Harry visits Borough Market

Prince Harry has visited Borough Market today, less than twenty four hours after it reopened following the terror attack there on June 3rd. Kensington Palace was quite clear about why the prince had gone - he was lending support to traders as they welcome shoppers back. #LoveBorough was the message and Harry really did. He has the cake to prove it.

Harry arrived at the market this morning with shirt sleeves rolled up, ready to do some serious shopping. Borough is London's oldest food market and after closing for ten days following the attack, it welcomed back shoppers for the first time yesterday with thousands flocking to the area. Harry joined them today for a royal tour that showed Borough is back in business.

The prince started his visit by chatting to Ganga Garbuja, a security officer at the market who was on duty on the night of the attack and who helped lead people to safety. It was a chance for the prince to hear more about the bravery which helped so many on the night.  Harry also met some of the staff working in the area's restaurants who had done so much to help as the attack unfolded. The prince thanked them for their bravery.

Then it was down to the serious business of supporting business. Harry toured many of the shops and stalls at the market, touring cheese and charcuterie, fruit and veg and pop up stalls alike.

Kensington Palace said the prince wanted to show support for the community and spread the message that the market is open for business.

And just to get the tills ringing, Harry grabbed a few doughnuts during his time at Borough Market. Popping into Bread Ahead, he splashed the cash on some sweet treats - the blackberries are almost one of his five a day. Harry was full of praise for the people working at the market and Kensington Palace gave the area its full support with plenty of tweets about #LoveBorough.

The terror attack on Borough Market and London Bridge killed eight people and injured dozens more. The attackers were shot dead by police at the scene. Earlier this week, the Duchess of Cambridge visited some of the injured in hospital when she made an unannounced visit to King's in London.
