Princess Desiree's husband dies





The husband of Princess Desiree of Sweden, Baron Niclas Silfverschiold, has died. He was 82. The Swedish Royal Court announced that the brother in law of King Carl XVI Gustaf had died on April 11th 2017 in a short statement.





The missive said that the King of Sweden and his family had received ''with great sadness'' the news that Baron Silfverschiold had passed away and said that their thoughts were with Princess Desiree and her family.  Expressen later confirmed he had been surrounded by his family when he died. 



Nils-August Otto Carl Niclas Silfverschiold was born on May 31st 1934 at Koberg Castle in Sweden. His engagement to Princess Desiree was announced on December 18th 1963 and the couple married at Storkyrkan in Stockholm on June 5th 1964. Desiree lost her HRH at the time of the marriage and was afterwards known as Princess Desiree, Baroness Silvferschiold. The couple had three children.



Niclas, Baron Silfverschiold was a regular at royal events including the wedding of his niece by marriage, Crown Princess Victoria. He is survived by his wife, children and four grandchildren.
