Belgian State Visit to Japan, Day Four

The King and Queen of the Belgians take the train to Nagoya on day four of their State Visit to Japan

The King and Queen of the Belgians hopped back on the train on day four of their State Visit to Japan. This rail journey took them to a port to hear about cars. It was part of a day of engagements linked to the economy and business between the two nations. Day Four was all about the money.

Philippe and Mathilde hopped on board the Shinkansen train to Nagoya as day four got under way. The high speed train whizzed them to the port, on the Pacific Coast, which is home to several of Japan's most famous car manufacturers.

Queen Mathilde focused the first part of her visit on the trade in Belgian products in Japan, visiting a large department store in Nagoya to see home items on sale.

King Philippe attended a business meeting with local economic leaders - the port of Nagoya ships millions of cars to Belgium and the country's king heard about the economic ties between the two nations.

The royal couple held a lunch with representatives from the Japanese car sector as their day in Nagoya continued before heading to the Tokugawa Art Museum to see more of the culture of the local area.

Philippe and Mathilde then hopped back on the train and headed to their temporary home of Tokyo where that evening they hosted a concert to say thank you to their royal hosts, the Emperor and Empress of Japan. Day five of the Belgian State Visit will take the royal couple to Osaka. The trip ends on October 15th 2016.
