What the Windsor Women Wore: the Patron's Lunch

The Duchess of Cambridge at the Patron's Lunch on the Mall, June 12th 2016

Just about everyone else was wearing ponchos or rain coats but as the Queen's official birthday celebrations came to an end, the women of the House of Windsor made like it was summer and went all bright and beautiful on us. There were all kinds of sunny outfits on show as the party weekend finished - here's a look back at what the Windsor women wore to the Patron's Lunch.

Kate went for a designer who always does great things for her and if this Roksanda Ilncic dress isn't up there with the best of them, then who cares? It's still rather nice. The pastel pink and blue combo is a real hint of spring while the shape and style are ultra modern and look sharp and fresh on Kate. Our first royal ray of sunshine.

The York women went for stripes with varying levels of success. Princess Beatrice tried a Sixties vibe with her T-shirt style top and black and white skirt and almost hit the target.

Princess Eugenie was on to a winner with her multi coloured stripe patchwork dress with flounce. Yes, flounce, If your granny is turning 90 then flounces are almost de rigeur. Cheers here for Eugenie.

The Countess of Wessex had kept it very light over the birthday weekend then plunged into monochrome for the street party finale. Maybe it was the weather but this is a little low key.

Bright and white for Zara Tindall on this grey day in London. Her coat is super stylish and a good idea being as it was a) very cold and b) very wet. The hair gets extra points for chicness, too.

White, too, for Autumn Phillips whose husband, Peter, had played a big part in organising the whole event. Her neat little black and white print dress and bright jacket combo was a winner all the way.

The Princess Royal also went for white with a long jacket and beige skirt which was very sensible and quite chic to boot.

But the star of the show was, again, the Queen. The pink might not have been quite as bright as the green (how will we ever forget the green?) but it stood out, looked bright and put a smile on everyone's face. The birthday Monarch proved that, even at 90, she leads everywhere.
