A little bit of art, a touch of football and a huge crowd that will take some beating this week at least. It's been a busy day for royalty across Europe - here are the royal headlines from June 22nd 2016.

Queen Letizia of Spain led the tributes to her mother in law at an event marking the 30th anniversary of an organisation with which Queen Sofia has been deeply involved. The Foundation against Drug Addiction marked this milestone at an event in Madrid and Queen Sofia was given special recognition for her work with the organisation. In her speech, Queen Letizia revealed that Sofia had said it was one of the organisations with which she was most proud to work.

Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands visited a healthy school playground scheme in Amsterdam. The project aims to give pupils a green space to enjoy where they can play and learn about planting and growing a garden. She also saw an exhibition by children called 'Dear..' in which they use art to tell adults what they like doing. Part of its aim is to support mental health among young people.

King Philippe of the Belgians held a working breakfast with people working to support entrepreneurship through mentoring. And then it was time to cheer on Belgium in their last group match of Euro 2016 with the by now regular royal tweet of support as they lined up to play Sweden.

Now it's time for the crowds. The Queen spent the day in Liverpool where she was given a rapturous reception at the City Hall from thousands of people who had come to see her.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh then headed to Alder Hey where they were welcomed with another huge turnout. They opened a new hospital in the park and saw a tea party being held by some of the children there.

As Charles and Camilla continued their annual week long tour of Scotland where they are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, there was a spot of sewing, a dog show and a chance for Charles to reminisce about his childhood.

But photo of the day is the one that appears on the front of the new edition of royal magazine, Kungliga, in which King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, recreate their engagement picture as they mark 40 years of marriage. They look very happy and very relaxed and not nearly old enough to be marking four decades since their wedding. That really is a headline.
