Royal Ascot 2016: Day Four

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh arriving on day four of Royal Ascot

The Friday of Royal Ascot always feels a bit more relaxed. The excitement of Ladies Day is over but there are still two more days of fun to look forward to. As usual, this year saw a smaller royal presence than earlier in the week but there was still plenty to enjoy as the Ascot carriages arrived.  Here are the royal arrivals from day four.

The Queen's outfit was particularly stand out on day four. She suits pink but this warm shade of coral is about as perfect a colour for her as you can find. It just works and then some.

The coat is simple and perfectly cut but it's the hat that really catches the eye in this outfit. Big enough to be noticed but not so big you can't see its wearer and with a sweep of feathers that adds a real accent to an already unbeatable Ascot ensemble. Fabulous for day four.

Pink can be too pale and that was the problem for the Duchess of Cornwall who chose a very pastel version of the shade and ended up looking almost washed out in it.  The heavy lace embellishment didn't help.

The flare of the coat doesn't really work either which is a shame because the hat is one of Camilla's prettiest efforts to date. Almost there, just not quite.

Princess Beatrice brought her mum along which meant a lot of attention was focused on Sarah, Duchess of York rather than her daughter's rather stylish day four outfit.

Beatrice's mix of mint green and navy was a total winner and without the jacket you can see just what a pretty dress she has on and the statement collar is a right royal treat. But it's the hat that really wows in this wardrobe choice. Bea's Forties style straw confection is light, chic and stylish. Hooray for Beatrice.

After wowing on Ladies Day, Princess Michael of Kent took it slightly easier on day four and was clearly feeling the chill as her coat had elements of winter about it.  But extra points all round for hubby's matching waistcoat.

Aside from the bunched up belting in the middle, the hat seemed to be the wrong shape for the outfit. This is one look that might well have worked inside once the coat was lost but as all we saw was the cover up, it won't be making the most memorable list.
