Take a lovely summer's evening, add in a grand stately home, mix in a list of glamourous guests and finish with a royal appearance and you have a night to remember. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a gala dinner for Kate's charity, East Anglia Children's Hospices last night, to say thank you to many of the people involved in its Nook Appeal. And it was a night to remember.

It all started with champagne on the lawns of Houghton Hall in Norfolk. The Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley threw open the doors of their ancestral home for the event and were on hand to greet Kate and William as they arrived at this thank you dinner like no other.

The Nook Appeal aims to raise funds to build a brand new hospice set among woodland with state of the art facilities for the children and young people cared for there and for there families. The nook would be built at Framlingham Earl in Norfolk and the people at the gala dinner last night have all been working towards making that a reality.

They got a real treat as a thank you. As well as spending plenty of time talking to Kate and William as they mingled with guests, there was a five course dinner for them including food by Tom Kerridge and Claude Bosi.

The entertainment included a speech by author Anthony Horowitz and a performance by magician, Archie Manners, though we don't know yet whether Kate volunteered to take part in any of his tricks.

The Duchess of Cambridge was in rose gold Jenny Packham and it looked picture perfect against the fading light of a midsummer's evening in Norfolk.

EACH is a high profile charity for Kate and with its work based so close to her home at Anmer Hall it's an organisation she spends a lot of time looking out for. Last night's dinner was a chance to add a touch of sparkle to her work with the charity, a dinner date with a mission for the Duchess of Cambridge.
