The Royal Wardrobe: it's all about skirts and silk

Winter really started to bite this week but that didn't put the royals off hitting all the latest trends and showing off some stunning looks. There were a lot of skirts, plenty of leather looks and a stunning style statement from one of the royal stars of the week. Here are the top five looks of the last seven days.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark was right on trend with her skirt when she attended an engagement with the Danish Heart Foundation. The colours were spot on as well - this princess has started the new royal fashion year in regal style

It was a good week for skirts all round as Queen Maxima of the Netherlands showed off a sleek leather look at a New Year Reception paired with a cracker of a bottle green blouse and a check coat.

The Duchess of Cambridge went for checks too when she headed to church at Sandringham on January 10th and then took part in a commemoration marking the centenary of the end of the Gallipoli campaign. Kate's two piece is rather stylish and and carried on the skirt theme with another on trend look.

Queen Rania of Jordan chose a leather look rather similar to Maxima's for one of her meetings in Belgium where she has been highlighting the plight of Syrian refugees. Here she is seen meeting the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.

But the stand out look of the week came from a queen about to mark a very special anniversary. Sonja of Norway will celebrate twenty five years as her country's queen consort on January 17th and as she began festivities with a reception in Oslo she showed off a super stylish silk coat dress - a stand out look on a special weekend for Norway's royals.
